I
-
My name is Lauren Torres Funiestas: 2nd generation Ilokana-American daughter, mother & sexual assault survivor, currently residing on Patwin/Miwok territory, also known as the Solano County, CA.
My family immigrated from the Philippines by way of the United States Air Force and I was raised internationally, having lived in the Philippines, Japan and the American Southwest before settling in California.
My private practice is informed by the teachings of transnational feminists, traditional Filipino healers, Buddhist leaders and old school white psychologists who took LSD and other drugs. I incorporate spirituality, somatic experiencing, dream imagery, community justice and meme humor in my work with clients.
The therapeutic work I engage in is meant to serve those who are healing intergenerational cycles of childhood emotional neglect, sexual violence and are in search of healing from a decolonial, feminist perspective.

our intentions
In the USA, there is a call for cultural remembering within the first-third generation Pilipino/a/x -Americans (PAs) who long to re-connect with their pre-colonial roots.
Our objective is to guide introductory-level explorations into decolonization work as an innovative and essential supplement to address gaps in mental health related services currently offered to PAs in the diaspora.
By the end of the daylong immersion, participants will be able to:
1) Describe the Babaylan & Kapwa and how these pre-colonial spiritual concepts can be utilized to improve holistic wellness and heal intergenerational trauma within self and our communities
2) Deconstruct the impact of colonial mentality and its internal & external affects on their mental health status
3) Cultivate connections with other PAs in the diaspora as we continue the wave of radical, visionary, and necessary change in the collective for generations to come
